NBC Section 9.11 provides standards for sound insulation between dwelling units to ensure acoustic privacy and comfort for occupants.
9.11.1.1. Sound Transmission Class (STC). Every construction assembly separating a dwelling unit from another dwelling unit shall have a minimum STC rating of 50.
9.11.2.1. Impact Noise. Floor assemblies shall be designed to minimize the transmission of impact noise, such as footsteps, to the units below.
