NBC 9.38: Secondary Suites and Accessory Dwellings

9.38.1.1. Scope. This Section applies to the design and construction of secondary suites within existing or new residential buildings.

9.38.2.1. Fire Separations. Secondary suites shall be separated from the primary dwelling unit by fire separations with the prescribed rating.

9.38.3.1. Egress. Every secondary suite shall have its own independent means of egress to ensure occupant safety.
