Section 7.1.1B.2: Mandatory Floor Drain Requirements
Residential Basement Drainage
According to OBC Section 7.1.1B.2, floor drains are mandatory in any basement forming part of a dwelling unit, provided gravity drainage to a sanitary system is possible. In cases where gravity drainage is not feasible, the code permits connections to storm drainage systems or dry wells, provided the drain only receives clear water waste or storm sewage.
Shared and Service Area Requirements
To maintain hygiene and safety, floor drains must be provided in various communal and mechanical spaces that are not located within a single dwelling unit, including:
